Solace is a daily companion for the long middle of binge eating recovery. These Terms of Service ("Terms") are the agreement between you and us when you use Solace.
We've kept these terms as plain as we can while still being legally complete. Where we have to be precise, we are. Where we can speak in your voice, we do.
By creating an account or using Solace in any way, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

Solace is operated by an individual sole proprietor based in Germany. References to "we", "us", "our", or "Solace" in these Terms refer to this operator.

Solace is a mobile application designed to support people navigating binge eating recovery. It offers:
Solace is built carefully and quietly. It is not a perfect solution. It is one piece of a recovery, alongside whatever else supports you.
Read this section carefully.
Solace is not a medical device, diagnostic tool, or therapy. It does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical or psychological condition. It is not regulated by the FDA, the EMA, or any other medical regulatory authority. It has not been clinically validated as a treatment for eating disorders.
Solace is not a crisis intervention service. If you are in crisis, experiencing suicidal thoughts, or in a medical emergency, please contact your local emergency services or a crisis helpline immediately. Solace is not equipped to respond to emergencies.
Solace is not a replacement for professional care. If you have an eating disorder, are in active recovery, or are managing other mental or physical health conditions, please work with qualified healthcare providers. Solace is designed to complement professional care — not replace it.
Solace does not provide medical or therapeutic advice. Anything within the app is for general support and reflection only. If you have questions about your health, consult a qualified professional.
By using Solace, you acknowledge that you understand these limitations.
You must be at least 18 years old to use Solace.
If you are under 18, you are not permitted to create an account or use the app, regardless of any consent from a parent or guardian. We have chosen this age threshold because eating disorders in minors typically require clinical supervision and parental involvement that a companion app cannot provide.
By creating an account, you confirm that you are 18 or older.
You must also have the legal capacity to enter into a contract under the laws of your jurisdiction. If you don't, please don't use Solace.
To use most features of Solace, you'll need to create an account.

You can delete your account at any time from within the app or by emailing support@solaceapp.me. Deletion is permanent and irreversible.
We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, attempt to harm the service or other users, or use the app in a way that creates legal or safety risk.

Everything you create within Solace — journal entries, voice notes, anchors, letters to your future self, mood logs, and any other reflections — is yours.
You own your content. We make no claim to it.
You grant us a limited license to store, process, and display your content solely for the purpose of providing the Solace service to you. This license is automatically revoked when you delete your content or your account.
We do not analyze your content. We do not read your journal entries, listen to your voice notes, or use your content for any purpose beyond storing it and showing it back to you.
We do not train AI on your content. Your content is never used to train machine learning models, ours or anyone else's.
You can export your content at any time using the in-app export feature, or request a data export by emailing support@solaceapp.me.

Solace offers free features and an optional paid subscription called Solace Pro. Solace Pro unlocks additional features such as unlimited journal history, all meditations and soundscapes, and therapist export.
Subscription pricing is displayed in the app before you subscribe. Subscriptions are processed by Apple's App Store and renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
You can manage and cancel your subscription in your device's Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. Cancellation prevents future charges but does not refund the current period.
Refunds are handled by Apple according to their refund policy. We do not process refunds directly.
Free trials, if offered, automatically convert to paid subscriptions unless cancelled before the trial ends.
Solace itself — including the app, the website, the design, the code, the brand name, and the logo — is our intellectual property, protected by copyright and trademark law.

We work to keep Solace available and functional. However, we cannot guarantee uninterrupted service. The app may be unavailable due to:
When we plan downtime in advance, we will try to notify you. We are not liable for service interruptions.
We may also discontinue Solace or any of its features at any time. If we plan to fully discontinue the service, we will give you reasonable notice and an opportunity to export your data.
Solace is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to:

We will try to give you notice before termination when possible. Upon termination, your right to use Solace ends immediately, and we will delete your data according to our Privacy Policy.
These Terms are governed by the laws of Germany, without regard to conflict of law principles.
For consumers in the European Union: This choice of law does not deprive you of the protections granted to you under the mandatory consumer protection laws of your country of residence. You may bring legal proceedings in the courts of your country of residence, or in the courts of Germany at your option.
For all other users: Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of Solace will be resolved in the courts of Germany.
Online dispute resolution: The European Commission provides an online dispute resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr. We are not obligated and not willing to participate in dispute resolution procedures before a consumer arbitration board.
Entire agreement: These Terms, along with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding Solace. They supersede any prior agreements.
Severability: If any part of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
No waiver: Our failure to enforce any part of these Terms does not constitute a waiver of that provision.
Assignment: You cannot transfer your rights under these Terms to anyone else. We may transfer our rights to a successor entity if we ever change our business structure (you'll be notified).
Notices: We send important notices by email (to your registered address) or through the app. You should keep your email address up to date.
Apple App Store / Google Play: If you downloaded Solace from Apple's App Store or Google Play, you also agree to those platforms' terms regarding apps. We are not affiliated with Apple or Google.
